MAGICAL BALI

Eat. Pray. Love.

The first time I heard about Bali was from the book and movie, "Eat, Pray, Love". At first, I wasn't really that interested. But, over the years I grew more fascinated with this mystical place. So, I decided to head to Ubud and discover what Bali was really about. It was an enlightening experience.

Spiritual Journey

I was very fortunate to spend some time in Ubud. I met some great people who really showed me the value in living simply. As a city gal, sometimes it's easy to take the simple things in life for granted. Meeting the local people and seeing their friendly smiles and faces, made me feel so blessed to be in their presence. From visiting the holy temples and Ubud Palace to the beaches and waterfalls, I really enjoyed my stay. By the way, I had never seen "black sand" beaches before, so this was totally different.

Getting Out of My Own Way

The universe has a wonderful way of giving us what we need, even when we don't know what that is. Each of my trips have their own character and has given me different things. I have met other travelers on my journey and I have accepted that each person is a part of that specific story. Also, the biggest challenge that I had to overcome was being more "in the moment". With trying to always capture these experiences through pictures, the need to constantly photograph becomes the primary focus, instead of just admiring that time and space. I am learning to get out of my own way.

Holy Ground

One of the most beautiful things that I have witnessed in Ubud is the "Spirituality". From yoga, retreats and workshops to organic shops, restaurants, cafes, co-working spaces and spas, the holistic vibe is uplifting. Although, I am not a yogi, I admired the healthy living lifestyle that has been captured here. Ubud, can also be a contrast of sorts; one side you have the peaceful temples and the Monkey Forest with the cute little monkeys (who run the place), with Ubud Center that is very crowded and overrun with scooter bikes, terrible traffic and DOGS! I have never seen so many dogs in my entire life. For dog lovers, you will not be disappointed. But, it was truly a wonderful adventure. I will be heading back to explore other areas of Bali, as well.

I encourage those who are looking for something different to head to Ubud. If not for anything else, you must go for the $6-$7 massages!

VIVA MEXICO

Ahh... I love Mexico. The people. The culture. The music. The food.

I visit this amazing country quite frequent. It is one of my favorite countries in the world. From the cenotes, caves, waterfalls to festivals, parades and many celebrations, there is something for everyone.

Pushing Beyond Limits

Traveling seems a bit out of reach for many people. There are several excuses for not taking advantage of this incredible opportunity. Sometimes, stepping into the unknown can be a bit scary. Each time I travel to new places, I experience some level of anxiety. This anxiety is just a feeling of not knowing what to expect, but coupled with excitement of doing something different...going some place new. But, I don't let this stop me from moving forward. If you want to explore new things, you have to take risks and move beyond your "comfort zone". Be bold, and see what is waiting for you on the other side.

International Foodie

During my travels, I get to experience some amazing food. Mexico has warmed my heart with their tasty dishes; from quesadillas to burritos and a variety of different cuisines. In fact, in Playa Del Carmen, interestingly my favorite little "off the beaten path" restaurant is a Colombian place. Go figure! This is one of the reasons why I enjoy visiting Mexico so much; diversity, weather, cost of living and the people.

Going With The Flow

Each person has their own personal travel style and flow. Some folks like the outdoors with hiking, mountain trekking.  Others are more into water activities, such as surfing, and snorkeling. Being a city gal, my style is a combination of cosmopolitan meets local culture. I have discovered during my travels that I enjoy quiet surroundings, but not being too far from the action. If I want to just relax, then I will hang out at the beach or beach clubs or go swim in a cenote in Tulum, Isla Mujeres, and Puerto Morelos. Also, I am adventurous, and do enjoy other activities like skydiving, and more. But, then if I am ready to party, I head to Cancun and Playa Del Carmen. So, depending on your interests, you can find a bit of everything to suit your taste and needs.

HIDDEN GEM…MONTENEGRO

Staying in the capital, Podgorica was such a treat. It is such a unique city–a combination of Old War history and modern day architecture.

Although, I didn’t speak Serbian or Montenegrin, I found the natives were very gracious and accommodating. I did at least try to greet the locals in their native language. Which, they seemed to be impressed with this.

With gracious hosts, I was able to see other parts of the country, such as: Niksic, Risan, Budva, Kotor, Petrovac, Tivat, Porto Montenegro and Perast.

OH, SPAIN!

South Florida to Southern Spain

I have had the wonderful opportunity to stay in the beautiful country of Spain. However, I didn't head to the popular Barcelona, or city of Madrid, I decided to visit the Costa Del Sol-Andalucia region. Heading to Marbella felt like home, very familiar. Living in Florida, it gave me that Miami, "South Beach" vibe, with a mix of Fort Lauderdale blended in there as well. So, I went from South Florida to Southern Spain.

Off The Beaten Track

My choices in life, and even my travel style seems "unconventional" to others. But, it is simply about the journey. I like to do what feels natural to me, not what others consider "normal". My travel style matches my personality; Bold and adventurous. I select places that seem interesting to me and pushes me outside of my comfort zone. Traveling forces me to grow in ways that I have never imagined. Not always having an exact destination or detailed itinerary can seem daunting at times, but also very liberating. When I told people I was headed to Spain, instantly I was met with "Barcelona" or "Madrid"? But, when I mentioned Marbella, there were some confused looks, as well as genuine curiosity. The bottom line, your journey is uniquely your own, wherever it leads you.

Broadening Your Horizons

There is no one road that takes you to where you need to be or want to go. I also ventured to other parts of Spain; Cabopino, Cadiz, Estepona, Fuengirola, Malaga, Mijas, Tarifa and Torremolinos. Malaga was fun, too! I stayed in this vibrant city. From street performers, art shows to museums and jazz clubs, I had a blast. Tarifa was a bit more laid back, but it is close to Morocco. I was so excited being that close to Africa and could see it right in front of me. So picturesque and beautiful. Cabopino is a marina with great little shops and restaurants and I enjoyed a gorgeous sunset.

Spain is a beautiful country. I will be back soon....

HITTING THE ROAD

Keeping It Moving

I am constantly asked, “how do you select the places you want to go”, or “how do you do it”?  The journey started many years ago…I traveled for leisure and business; I do both simultaneously. You just have to make a plan and then take a chance. I have a saying: ” when you take a chance on life, it takes a chance on you.”  You will never know until you take the first step and try something new and different. There is nothing like the actual experience.

Changing Your Plans

The wonderful thing about life, you can change your mind at any time. If you don’t like something, do something else. It will not be easy, but it will be worth it. I hear people make excuses about why they can’t do something and if this is your attitude, you will not be able to do it. Once negativity sets in, it changes your entire outlook and sometimes make things seem impossible. But, anything is possible when you believe.

Hitting The Road

So, first make a decision that you want to change your life. Once you figure that out, then you must take the steps to achieve your goal. You can start small, until you get comfortable with your new direction. Once you are comfortable with the process, you can adjust your plans  accordingly. There is no right or wrong way to get where you are trying to go. Life is too short to not see all of the beauty surrounding you.

Pick a destination, plan,  and enjoy the ride.
